THE FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS PAYS TRIBUTE TO ARNALDO POMODORO
The Festival of the Arts came back to Umbria for the second year in a row after the successful first edition held in Todi, L’Aquila and Venice to pay tribute to American artist Beverly Pepper and it was curated by Francesca Valente. The event is promoted by Fondazione Progetti Beverly Pepper and it is realized in partnership with Comune di Todi. The Festival is organized on the ground of the long-lasting friendship between Beverly Pepper and one of the greatest contemporary Italian sculptors, Arnaldo Pomodoro, to whom the event payed a wide and extended tribute in collaboration with Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro of Milan.
Curtain rised on July 24 and the spotlight was on the Quattro Stele (1997-2000) temporary installation in the central square Piazza del Popolo in Todi and also on the Scettri (1987-1988) located nearby the Oberdan Gardens. These are five aluminum sculptures on a long-term and free loan to use that Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro granted to the town of Todi.
The activities resumed on August 28 in conjunction with the first day of the Todi Festival on the occasion of the opening of the temporary exhibition Labyr-Into, at Sala delle Pietre in the town hall. The exhibition was curated by Francesca Valente and was on until September 26. The visitors had a chance to enter virtually into the Arnaldo Pomodoro’s environmental artwork. In addition, between July 24 and September 26, an EDUtainment space was set up in Sala del Torcularium at the Lucrezie museum complex. The space explained to the visitors the relationship among Arnaldo Pomodoro, Beverly Pepper and the Umbria region through pictures and videos. In the Sala del Torcularium several all-age-groups educational workshops took also place, as well as Urban ART Tours, a series of guided walking tours, which were organized around the premises of the festival.
