BEVERLY PEPPER AND MARK DI SUVERO ON A GLOBAL STAGE
Pioneers of public sculpture in one of Italy’s oldest towns

Urban Art Trekking in Todi: where the contemporary meets the ancient, imagining possible futures

Have you ever imagined what happens when the ancient becomes the stage for the works of the greatest contemporary sculptors? In Todi, one of Italy’s oldest and most charming villages, you can discover this in a unique urban trekking experience, where the medieval past meets contemporary art in a dialogue that both enchants and surprises. As you walk through narrow alleys, historic squares, and breathtaking views, you’ll embark on a cultural journey immersed in the timeless atmosphere of Todi. The protagonists of this route are two giants of public art: Beverly Pepper and Mark di Suvero. We’ll visit the Beverly Pepper Park, an open-air museum that hosts sixteen monumental iron sculptures, a testament to Pepper’s innovative artistic vision as a pioneer of contemporary sculpture and Land Art. This park represents an extraordinary fusion of art and landscape, offering visitors a unique emotional and intellectual experience.

Our next stop will be Piazza del Popolo, the city’s vibrant heart, where you can admire Neruda’s Gate, a monumental work by Mark di Suvero, one of the last great living masters connected to the generation of abstract expressionism. The sculpture, with its dynamic energy and powerful forms, creates a striking contrast with the medieval architecture of the square, blending past and future into a singular artistic vision. This experience offers you the chance to experience Todi in a new way, exploring the connection between history and innovation, between the ancient and the contemporary, in a constant dialogue between art and place.
